Second Layer World Of Rubber Rar Rating: 7,7/10 9970reviews

A stone-cold post-punk classic, 'World of Rubber' was the sole LP produced by Adrian Borland and Graham Bailey as 2nd Layer. They would also make music.

Second Layer

Love music that creeps me out and this does the trick. Two members of one of my favorite post-punk bands (The Sound) team up to form Second Layer. Vocalist/guitarist Adrian Borland and bassist Graham Bailey create a dark soundscape ripe with urban decay. It's more experimental, industrial, and gritty in nature than The Sound, but it foreshadowed the more experimental direction they would take for 1982's All Fall Down. Wireless Adapter Problems Vista on this page. Borland is captivating here and more detached than in The Sound on the majority of these songs. I particularly like 'Fixation', 'Save Our Souls' and 'Zero,' the last of which gets pretty unsettling by the end.

(As does 'Underneath the Gloss.' ) The last track, where he repeats 'black flowers.' Into the grinding abyss, is sung in one of the most haunting manners I've ever heard. Bailey's basslines provide a strong, steady anchor to his vocals. There's plenty of interest here for someone who's into the darker side of new wave, and 80's industrial and electronic music.

If you're a fan of the pulsating rhythm of Suicide, the creepy vibes of some of Tuxedomoon or Wire's more experimental offerings, and The Sound, this is a must-hear.
