Earlier this was mentioned as being an issue with LOCAL mgmt settings, but now from what I'm hearing, I would guess that it's an issue with REMOTE mgmt settings too. Can someone confirm this? If you set REMOTE mgmt to HTTPS-only, will you be unable to connect to your router from outside? And what are the symptoms? Do you not even get the login screen or is it afterwards that the web GUI fails to work properly? So I just finally got an E4200v1 set up to replace a V2 whose Parental Controls were a joke.
I had been looking forward to the V1's Internet Access Policy as advertised in this Cisco KB article Which says: • You can create up to 10 Internet access policies for Internet Access Policy. There’s no Access Policy option under Parental controls. • For Parental controls, you can block a maximum of eight (8) websites.
Under Internet Access Policy, you can block an unlimited number of websites based on the URL addresses and keywords.' The problem is that what I see in IAP has *MUCH* more restrictive capacities. In particular: A) There's a maxium of 5 policies (not the 10 advertised) B) There's a maxium of 4 URL's (not the 'unlimited' advertised) C) There's zero key word blocking (not the 'unlimited' advertised) It's really ashame because the Applied PC's list is certainly ample enough to work with, but the 5 policies is a MAJOR limitation. Especially when you have to burn 2 rules just to have one time restriction that spans midnight. So my questions are: Q1) So what happened, did Cisco scale back these capacities that they used to have? (if so, it wouldn't be the first customer-be-damned backward marketing/design decision they'd made) Q2) I'm running 1.0.04 because (a) it has the WPS lockdown fix, (b) it's often good to have the latest.
But do the earlier E4200 firmwares have the advertised 10 policies & unlimited URL's? If so, which.
Q3) I don't suppose there's a hidden web page for IAP config that would unlock these old capacities with 1.0.04? (sort of like the hidden advanced wireless config page ) If there's no workaround for these restrictions, especially the 5 policies, then I suspect Cisco is going to force me to abandon stock firmware and try DD-WRT/Tomato.
Funny how I hear of more & more folks going that route. I don't really want to. I'm just feeling like Cisco is going to leave me little choice. I just upgraded to 1.0.0.4, and so far, so good. The WPS killswitch works. My iPod Touch and Apple TV 2 (still on firmware 4.3) do Airplay just fine.

I recently added a WD TV Live Streamer, and even though it's on the other side of the house, I can wirelessly copy files to its attached USB drive at 6 MB/sec sustained and stream Internet video. Allinone Keylogger 3.3- Download Activated Version. I was worried it would be a problematic connection, but so far, it's been solid. I've been using the parental restrictions to blacklist the Apple update sites to avoid any prompts to update my Apple TV firmware, and that continues to work well. Aside from the WPS vulnerability and the Airplay breakage when the ATV was using firmware 4.4 and later, this has been a good router for me, and 1.0.0.4 has been a good upgrade so far.
I just subscribed to Fibe 25 with Bell Canada and I was able to get 22-23 mb/s download and 7.3 mb/s upload on the provided router. Once I turned it off and plugged in my e4200 with firmware v1.0.04 (Build 11) I was able to get a little over 25 mb/s sustained and 1.8 mb/s upload. Icecold Reloaded.
I have run multiple tests with wireless and wired and always get the same numbers in my speed tests. Does anyone else have any issues with their upload speeds with the latest firmware?
