Revu's major updates come around once a year but because of this high frequency and the fact that they're not a juggernaut like Adobe, the feature set doesn't improve by huge amounts within the small time frame. So double definitely not with the academic discount: $49 maintainence vs $75 to just buy another copy. On the highly unlikely event that v9 has something utterly awesome that you just can't live without, you're only down $25 for not having bought the annual maintainence.
