The newest firmware, namely version 2.0.10 renders the Archos mini-dock useless, as it no longer allows the option to either 'attach to USB' or 'charge only.' This so called 'upgrade' causes the player to automatically connect to USB, killing the sound (or video) the instant you turn your computer on.
It was so nice to have my mini-dock A605 permanently connected to my computer without having to reach for the USB to disconnect it lest my computer sees the A605 as a non-bootable drive. Archos solution? They basically said 'TOUGH LUCK!' • 2 Answers SOURCE: I managed to overcome the problem by doing a factory reset. Unfortunately doing this initially created more problems in that on reboot the main screen appearance looked as it should but was almost inoperable.
When the usb cable was connected to my pc the disc did appear on My Computer. The system folder was only 1MB.
By good fortune I had copied and saved my Archos files before I carried out the factory reset. Copying the original system files ( about 20MB) back to my Archos returned normal behaviour. Further, two additional buttons appeared.
One was a manual arclibrary update button and the other a USB setup button. I cannot get file transfer to operate under windows media player mode and Windows media player 11. No problem though. I use PC hard drive mode and carry out a manual arclibrary update. None of this was possible prior to the factory reset.
I believe I would still be having serious problems had I not saved and restored my system files Posted on Feb 11, 2008. • 22 Answers SOURCE: hitesh_rao - the reset button is at the bottom by the USB and docking ports. Tiny hole, need a pin or paper clip. Once pressed, just switch it back on. This may be a stupid question, but when trying to configure the TV IR controller function and entering the relevant codes for my TV's, it asks 'did the TV switch off = Yes/No?'
None of my TV's switch off and then I cannot go any further with the config. Is this right?
I have logged this with Archos FOUR times now, and they just respond with 'the controller does not control your TV'. I am fully aware that it is not a TV controller, but then why does it want to switch off my TV during the config? I just want them to answer that question.
